Gaia's magnetic mantle, Her protective shield, can be disrupted with catastrophic consequences, tearing holes in it. It would seem, as with the atmospheric nuclear tests, scientists are willing for, and are aiding, Ultra or Extraterrestrials to enter our sphere. What is going on? We already have electromagnetic critical mass in the environment. Could they in fact short-circuit the Earth? Nostradamus prophesied that a King of Terror will come from the skies in the seventh month of 1999, and Hitler, who was mediumistic, seems to have had communications with this terrifying (radioactive?) being. Occult lore discusses Rays that periodically sweep our planet from some extraterrestrial source - the Pleiades and Orion are generally mentioned - and cause miracles and/or madness. HAARP carries on the work of the scientist Nicola Tesla who tried to develop a wireless system to send electric energy. Extraterrestrials are now appearing in channelings who claim that we are their creatures, that we were seeded or engineered by them, and that therefore they are entitled to come here and do what they like to us.

John Keel commented in 1971 (see note 14) that one of the most popular theories in cultist circles was that we were seeded on Earth from some interplanetary group which has observed and guided our progress ever since. This is what Erich von Daniken had popularised in the 60s in his books "Chariots of the Gods?" and "Return to the Stars". Keel comments that in that case they have been doing a lousy job of it in the last centuries, and I would say during the whole of the 5000 years or so destructive patriarchal era. If they have guided us all this time then one can only draw the conclusion that the oppression of women, the destruction of the Earth and the death of Nature, as well as racism and imperialism all happened with their blessing. Reading Alice Bailey channeling her Master DK in the 30s and 40s one certainly gets that impression. Keel wrote, by the way, that he was appalled at the racist comments coming from supposedly blond extraterrestrial Venusians.

To claim that we are seeded from out of space is a monumental denial of our Earth Mother's autonomous creative and lifegiving powers, and to claim that civilisations were founded suddenly out of the blue by Godkings who were space-beings is to deny that dark-skinned neolithic peoples, led by groups of women who loved life, the Earth, the Great Mother and developed and founded early magical cultures that evolved over many thousands of years. It is to deny that we all originated from Africa in the mists of time and that our original great ancestor was a Black/African woman. The claim that we are seeded, or genetically engineered in an imperialist way from other planets, strangely reflects today's realities of how US multinationals genetically engineer seed and introduce mechanical agribusiness methods that wreck ancient traditional agricultural systems in the "Third World", making peoples/peasants dependent on the huge US petrochemical companies. Peasant-women, who are the traditional farmers in Africa and India, have been disempowered even further with the misnamed "Green Revolution". Peoples have lost their lands and livelihoods to multinationals who store seed and genetic material, robbed from the "Third World" and indigenous peoples, in Western "seed banks" and without the permission of the peoples they have thus disinherited of their past and future.

Vandana Shiva writes in "Staying Alive: Women, Ecology, and Development" (see note 15) that indigenous women peasants in India were always the guardians and the Caretakers, of the soil, the seed, the trees and the waters, and perceive of Nature and the Earth as a great sacred living Mother. Western male scientists who, like the aliens or ET's it seems, envy women's lifecreating powers, desire to clone themselves and become a sort of male "mothers". They speak of actual mothers as "foetal environments" and ovarian "egg farms" and play around with women's fertility in hightech experiments, attempting to distance us from our experience of the sacredness of life by making birth hightech and more alienated, with women wired up to machines as well as creating substitute motherhood etc.

Before I go on to discuss some New Age channelers I would like to ask why these entities that are channeled - whether Masters, ancient immortals, spirit guides or ETs - are always male, and why their channels are almost always reactionary and male-identified women. Why do we never hear the voices of the Neolithic women who were the creators of ancient Goddess cultures and evolved mind-wisdom-intelligence as they studied the lunar cycles already in the Palaeolithic, or of the Wise women who were burnt at the stake in Europe during 300 years for having healing and magical powers. Why do we not hear the voices of the great female beings, the Sisterhoods which I sense out there, who are waiting for us to be free? This of course makes me very suspicious.

Are we to believe that also the spirit realms have been imperialised by the patriarchs? I for one do not believe this and I think that there are many false and devious spirits, and even more numerous false mediums and channelers who have their own axe to grind and want to justify the present patriarchal status quo. In this they are of course helped by historians and archeologists who still desire to write women out of history. (see note 16)

Seth, the spirit guide or ancient being, channeled by the American poet Jane Roberts in the 70's, explained that entities in other realms have no gender and are able to adopt any persona or appearance projected on them. "He" even said that as a person dies and arrives in the Spiritworld, and in order not to frighten her/him, the person's expectations will be enacted. If a Christian, the person will at first see angels playing harps and "god" bearded on a throne. It is however a thought-realm and anything can be created by thought and any distance traveled.

So ...obviously if spirit beings want to play games and even create havoc for humans they can do so. Some would desire to act as if they were some kind of ancient prophets, or even "ascended masters", and others would be plain mischievous. Of course there must be genuine great souls, ancient teachers who guide us.

All ancient and indigenous peoples communicate with the Ancestors who live on in other realms and from there they gain powers of healing and prophecy. My own sons are in the Spiritworld...

"Ascended Masters", however, come across as supporting and encouraging patriarchal, racist and imperialist views and destructive developments, such as the nuclear bomb, on the Earth plane and therefore I find it very difficult to imagine that they could possibly be genuine enlightened spiritual beings.

Ramtha - The Enlightened One

I first got into serious thinking about New Age channelings a few years ago after visiting Yelm, the headquarters of Mrs JZ Knight, who channels the supposedly 35,000 years old entity Ramtha in Washington State at the Canadian border on the West coast of the USA. She has made herself a hefty fortune from this. I had met up with Janet McCloud. a Native American traditional Elder who is politically active in defense of native lands and her people's traditions and fishing rights, at the First International Goddess Festival in California in 1994. Janet is a founder of Indigenous Women's Network (see note 17) and is a descendant of Chief Seattle. She had invited me to visit her at her Sapa Dawn centre in Yelm and to come and see "the dead people" that live there. It was clear that the small town had been taken over by Mrs Knight's white and well-off followers who have bought up property and started businesses all over the place. while at the same time around Yelm there are a number of native American reservations where people live in poverty. It is expensive to attend Mrs Knight's courses and 'school'. There are rumours that weapons are stored underground on the land belonging to Mrs Knight herself, land surrounded by high walls and barbed wire. Her followers are into mind-manipulation to create Super-consciousness and into survival from coming catastrophes.

I bought "Ramtha Intensive" (see note 18) in the bookstore which was brimming with vast manuscripts of Ramtha's pronouncements on everything from physics to the mind, the ancient world and future events. After speaking of threats to the Earth and advising people to buy property on high places to avoid floods and tidal waves from catastrophes - earthquakes and volcanic eruptions to come -Ramtha also launches into praise of "King Reagan" who he calls a "commonsense doer" who was on the line and divinely inspired. Ramtha/Mrs Knight then shows her true politics when she goes on to attack the Welfare state. A 35,000 year entity as an advocate of Free market capitalism! Not likely.

I have since then read JZ Knight's autobiography (see note 19) and understand a bit more where she is coming from. It seems that she grew up in poverty and hardship in New Mexico with a hardworking and long-suffering mother who had many children and a drunken and violent absentee husband. JZ herself was raped at an early age by a drunken uncle. But... all her life she clung on to the certain, and to her comforting belief in a loving and all-powerful Father God out there, and all her life she aspired to look like a blonde Barbie doll. She wrote of how her mother, although so poor, resented people on welfare.

Ramtha, a dazzling oriental man in long robes, appeared visibly to her in 1977 after her then husband had put a paper pyramid on her head as a joke. Ramtha claimed to be "the great Ram", the godman and Conqueror of ancient India, and before then an illuminated Cro-Magnon as well as a Lemurian in the beginning of time. Ramtha announced that JZ was "to be the light into the world", which of course must have been very flattering indeed. And "indeed" is a word that Ramtha constantly uses as he speaks through JZ, as can be heard on a number of tapes, developing a philosophy and worldview. According to Ramtha, Earth is a flattened sphere and is hollow inside. There are entrances to this Inner Hollow Earth at the poles and at such sacred places as Mount Shasta, popular with New Agers, in California. Within the Earth there exists an advanced subterranean Civilization of green human beings who emerge into this world in UFOs. They are green because of the copper in their water and there is an internal Sun. They have no love of humans as they have been ill-treated by us. The US and other governments are fully aware of and fear them. It seems that some Ramtha followers want desperately to go to the Poles to connect with these peoples and discuss how to go about this. Unbeknown to us there are apparently cosmic battles going on in the skies above us between belligerent and aggressive male gods, of which Jehovah is the worst. Ramtha claims that he in person will welcome his followers into his "kingdom" after death, and even threatens that then they will regret not having listened to him and obeyed him while they were still alive!

I cannot help comparing Ramtha with Seth, who I consider a far more enlightened, intelligent and interesting spirit guide. Seth was supposedly also a very ancient entity and was channeled through the poet Jane Roberts from as early as 1963. Seth speaks (see note 20)  of multiple universes and realities and also has a sense of humour. "He" calls himself an energy essence that is no longer manifested in physical form, therefore also without gender. S/he could take on any gender or form projected upon him/her/it. Seth said that "the physical world hides infinite dimensions of reality behind a tissue paper thin wall" and that all realities, physical and non-physical, are the creation of, and filled with, mind and consciousness. I came across the Seth books soon after my young son's death and I found them helpful in my grief and for my understanding of the Otherworld.

Some Angels, Masters and Extraterrestrials

Next I came across "Starseed Transmissions: An Extraterrestrial Report'' (see note 21) written during eleven days in 1982 while Carey claims to have been overshadowed by the Archan gel Raphael no less. Carey is revered in New Age circles and has recently come out with a new book called "Return of the Bird Tribes" (see note 22) in which he presumes to speak for ancient native American shamans.

Raphael most certainly seems to have it in for the material realm and thinks that we are deceived by its awesome forces and that we must set ourselves free from the "fallen state of our consciousness". He demonizes Earth and blames Her for this state of being. According to Raphael we are to grow away from Mother Earth's bonding and restraining energy to rejoin the Cosmic Brotherhood to live in great floating cities of light. This "Angel" speaks the language of an Extraterrestrial and is like all ETs into High-Tech in a big way. A computer will be incorporated into our physical body by "God" and only then will we be part of his creation and we will be "Children of the Stars". Then we will finally be Independent of our Mother Planet and of "the years of darkness spent in Her womb" we will remember nothing.

Those great floating cities of light that we are to aspire to are obviously UFOs and the space station is the ultimate computer environment where the voice of Nature is no longer heard. This sort of vision - anti-Earth and anti biological life - is common in the New Age and has appeared already in Alice Bailey's writings.

Alice Bailey and the Master DK

Alice Bailey (1880-1949) wrote 30 or so books during her long life, most of them channeled from the Tibetan Djwhal Khul, or Master DK, who was not an incarnate Master himself but the senior executive in a large Lamasery in Tibet. As he had supposedly lived with Bailey in a former life he had chosen her to pass on material channeled to him from the Hierarchy of Masters concerning the future evolution of "man". This co-operation between Alice Bailey and DK had started in 1919. She founded the Arcane school in the 1930s to train people for active New Age leadership and by 1945 it had graduated twenty thousand people. Alice Bailey established the Lucis Charitable Trust (Luce means light) in 1922 and it operates the Lucis Publ. Co. The New Group of World Servers was organised by her in 1925, under "the direction of the Hierarchy" to serve as a Vanguard for the reappearance of the Christ and "His great disciples, the Masters of Wisdom from Shambhala". The Goodwill foundation is a member of the Lucis Trust. It was founded in 1932 and it promotes Bailey's "The Great Invocation" worldwide. The Invocation has become a sort of New Age hymn, has been translated to 75 or so languages and is used as a sort of hypnotic mantra.

The words are:

From the point of Light within the Mind of God
Let Light stream forth into the minds of men.
Let Light descend on Earth.

From the point of Love within the heart of God
Let Love stream forth into the hearts of men.
May Christ return to Earth.

From the centre where the Will of God is known
Let purpose guide the little wills of men,
The purpose which the Masters know and serve.

From the centre which we call the race of men
Let the Plan of Love and Light work out
and may it seal the door where evil dwells.

Let Light and Love and Power restore the Plan on Earth.
