Memories
by Pamela
Thomas
We
are awaiting a piece by Pam Thomas, Monica's best
friend, with memories of Monica.
In the past they lived many years as an
extended family: Monica, her partner & Leif and Pam with her partner - both in
Bristol and in Wales.
During the last 15 years, when Monica lived in Bristol
and Pam in a rural cottage in Wales, they have kept in
close contact on the phone and by frequent visits.
Pam was a loyal companion and drove Monica, who never possessed
a driving license, all round the country to countless sacred
sites, slideshows and conferences.
Pam and Nairere (her adopted
daughter) -see photo of the pair above- also took
Monica on a
pilgrimage to France, which helped Monica lay the
ghosts to rest she'd carried with her ever since her
son Leif died there when he was hit by a car.
During Monica's periods of illness with cancer over
these last few years, Pam and Nairere always came to stay with her in Bristol to
look after her, take her to the hospital, visit her,
and so on. Monica also was the Nan, which Nairere
never had before.
